L-1 introduces new portable ID system
STAMFORD, Conn., July 15 (UPI) -- L-1 Identity Solutions introduced a new portable identity system Thursday to meet the needs of U.S. troops in the field and others.
The company said its Handheld Interagency Identity Detection Equipment system for identifying, verifying and enrolling people into a central database include its HIIDE 5, a small, lightweight unit for high-volume, remote enrollments and a new middleware application that enables the HIIDE to generate onboard templates for iris, fingerprint and facial images that are identical to those used in various authoritative databases.
The HIIDE systems are carried in the field by troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, where possible terrorist suspects and other suspicious individuals are entered into a database. The equipment also helps troops keep track of people in their areas of operation.
The system is customizable to fit a wide range of military and homeland security missions, the company said.
"Building off of our unparalleled HIIDE success with more than 12,000 units in the field, we developed the HIIDE 5 system in conjunction with a customer to introduce a device that marries a small form factor with enhanced capabilities for quickly identifying and enrolling large numbers of people in the field," said L-1 Identity Solutions President Robert V. LaPenta.
